Jam Discipline #4
Multidisciplinary Platform for Experimentation
What is Jam Discipline?
Jam Discipline is a gathering where artists of different disciplines meet to improvise and create together.

Musicians, visual artists, instrumentalists, and light artists merge into a breathing presence that fills the entire room. There are no mistakes, only pure eagerness to co-create. Art becomes the language, and improvisation becomes the conversation, or, better yet, a story.

This fourth edition will draw inspiration from patterns.

What can be found in the repetition? How can it transform into something else? How long does it take? How does it make one feel, and how can it break from its own rules?

We invite you to explore this topic together, with guidance from our curators Davit Melkonyan, Alexander Talalyan, etc

  • Davit Melkonyan
    Curator
Davit Melkonyan is an Armenian saxophonist, composer, arranger, and the Artistic Director of the Armenian State Jazz Orchestra.

Born into a family of musicians, he studied classical saxophone at the Komitas Yerevan State Conservatory under Professor Alexander Manukyan, becoming a laureate and prize-winner at multiple international and national competitions.

Alongside his academic training, Melkonyan discovered jazz and soon devoted himself to it professionally. In 2012, he won an international jazz competition in Rostov-on-Don, and in 2017 he earned a PhD in Art History, defending a dissertation on early 20th-century Armenian music history.

Melkonyan leads his own projects — Davit Melkonyan Group and Davit Melkonyan Quartet — presenting original music and new arrangements in Armenia and internationally. Since 2023, he has served as the Artistic Director of the Armenian State Jazz Orchestra; in 2024, under his artistic leadership, the orchestra completed a major international tour, strengthening its global presence.
